About

Why this museum exists

A note from the curator, written on the back of a postcard.

I collect old postcards that have actually been written on and posted - the ones with a message on the back, a stamp, a postmark, and someone's handwriting.

I started noticing that lots of them are being cut up for scrapbooking or craft projects. Which is fine… but every time it happens, a tiny piece of someone's life disappears forever.

Most of these postcards aren't historically important. They're just ordinary people saying things like:

"Arrived safely."
"The weather is lovely."
"Wish you were here."

But that's exactly why I love them.

This is my attempt to save a few of them.

I've built this little online museum to catalogue my collection and preserve the stories, handwriting and journeys behind each card.

Nothing here is for sale.

It's just a place for forgotten postcards to have a home.

Saving everyday history, one postcard at a time.

Wish you were here!

Have written postcards of your own?

If you'd rather see them preserved than scrapped

If you have a box of written, posted postcards in an attic or a drawer and would like them to find a quiet home rather than the recycling bin, I'd love to hear from you. Even just a single card with someone's handwriting on the back is worth saving.

Get in touch and I'll happily talk through what to do with them.
