Deco, jazz, and the linen card

Take your time - every card in this room has its own hour.
The world exhales. Ocean liners, night trains, weekend spa towns. Postcards follow the fashion into Deco: geometric borders, chevrons, sunbursts, hand-lettered captions that lean and stretch.
American printers perfect the linen card, a textured stock that takes ink like a poster. European publishers answer with hand-tinted photograms of the new resorts.
The handwriting loosens too, women’s hands especially - rounder, quicker, freer. Postcards feel modern for the first time.
