The 1970s
Earth tones and the long summer

Take your time - every card in this room has its own hour.
Colour photography has taken over completely. The palette warms: mustard, ochre, burnt orange, that peculiar seventies brown. Cars in the foreground of every view have a lot to answer for.
Postcards start to feel casual. Ballpoint replaces fountain pen. Messages get shorter, more telegraphic - you’re on holiday, keep it brief.
Yet volumes are still huge. This is arguably the last decade in which most travellers, most of the time, sent a card home.
